PubliQuestion and Answer: Dorsol Plants

by Erica Barnett, News Editor of Publicola

"...for a newcomer, Plants has an impressive command of the issues... His resume—five years in the Army, including combat duty in Iraq, volunteer work in a domestic violence program, and a job as a case manager at a downtown service center—is unassailable. And he’s received several major endorsements... In person, Plants is warm, smart, and likable—the sort of person you can easily see marching into a neighborhood council meeting and instantly taking over." Read the entire interview

Joel Connelly"Iraq veteran Plants shows how to grow a Seattle campaign"

Veteran P-I columnist Joel Connelly praises the Plants campaign:

"Nowadays, the 24-year-old transplanted West Virginian is waging a boots-on-the-ground campaign on the turf of Emerald City interest groups...Plants' campaign has sprouted sans financial nourishment."

"An election ought to race the blood of democracy. It detracts nothing from the quality of Plants' opposition...to suggest giving a look to the new kid on the block."

Dorsol Plants wins top vote in "Candidate Survivor"

In the most entertaining (and LOUD) candidate forum of the season, a large field of 09 City Council candidates, wearing track suits, were put through an amusing series of qualification rounds and some eliminated by audience text-message vote.
As the youngest candidate, Dorsol (in white tee at left) was an early favorite of the youthful audience and continued to win enthusiasm. Dorsol's "2-minute talent" demonstrated self-defense moves and ended with a drop to the floor and five one-handed pushups.

The event at the Showbox was sponsored by Washington Bus and The Stranger to motivate young voters to participate in an off-year primary. Afterwards, Dorsol received multiple offers of volunteer help with his campaign. "I am a politician, not a rock star," he reminded some who seemed a bit starstruck.  Seattle P-I : Your skinny dipping Seattle City Council candidates

Dorsol Plants engages Republicans at annual GOP barbeque

Dorsol Plants was the only City Council candidate to attend the event. He writes: " I had the opportunity on July 4th to meet with the Seattle Republican Party, and after a few awkward moments when I first admitted to being a Democrat we were able to get past that.

"Nationally, our two parties might be as different as night and day, but locally I'm hearing the same things from both. They want jobs, good schools, a convenient way to get to work on time, and safe streets their kids can walk down. I'm a Democrat, but will represent the needs of everyone in Seattle on the City Council, and would be proud to.'"
